Never run without a fully updated OS. Update your drivers, java version, flash version and what ever you might have. Get a good security program, having a free antivirus program wont fully protect you. You need a firewall and spyware detecting aswell. My advice is to get a program that costs money, but think about it this way. Or you can run with the free program and when the disaster happens you need to pay the double to get your computer repaired at your local computer shop. If you dont know what to buy i will personally advice you to buy BullGuard Internet Security.
By experience i know that people never listens when it comes to IT.

Well at least not before the disaster is out and i have to spend my time helping them, so if you really want to run a free program i will advice Avast Anti Virus as it is one of the best 'free' programs on the market. Im on a Rat or a Keylogger - What do i do?
We'll theres alot of things to do. The first thing to do is to track the file. Click on the tab called Processes. Now you will see all the running processes on your computer. All programs has a process running attracted to it. Any running program process will be displayed there. Now theres just one thing to do. By the time you will learn how to know if a process is harmless, if you do not know my advice would be to Google all of them one by one until you find alot of results containing "malicious software".
When you find the process right click it and go into Options and find the placement of the actual file, write it down. When you have done that you are safe until you reboot your computer. What you have done is that you have ended the connection between you and the hacker allthough next time you start your computer the process will start up along with windows.
Go into the tab called "Startup" all the programs that loads along with windows should appear. Somewhere here the file is. Often called the same as the process which is usual something completely random that should be easy to spot out. If you cant find it, google it.

Google is always your best friend. You can find anything by searching it. When you have found the malicious program remove it and click Apply. So basicly you have disabled the program so no connection will be made between the hacker and your computer.

Now you can run a virus scan and check if it finds something. Otherwise delete the file that you wrote down when you right clicked the process and went into options to find out where the file was placed. If you for some reason cannot do the above because a hacker is controlling your mouse you could try and boot up in safe mode.
Booting your computer in safe mode means that the system will only boot up with the neccessary processes and drivers. However I assume the majority of people dont, and therefore its a useful guide for the move naive scapers out there.
Gold missing from account!
Norton turned horrible, what other "big" and good programs are there. Ive got Kaspersky myself and i think its a great product, had it for 2 years and the only problem ive ever had was a malware that got onto my computer and stopped me from openeing any processes so i did the method above, booted up in safe mode and ticked off the malware process from the startup config. I dident like Bullguard aswell, but fact is they improved. Yes, believing company's own press releases is always good.
They are not biased in slightest. If you want to see independent testing of AVs, go to http: Maybe twist things around but a given result from a detection test does not lie lol. Edited by Fradiger, 08 March - They are always written with business in mind and they are trying to make more sales with boosting their ego and they certainly aren't unbiased in saying "we have the best product".
I also think that most people who do not have computer knowledge to a virus removal level will not really care for your guide, and the Scapers who read this will mostly start over-panicing about keyloggers, etc. Edited by DaveC, 08 March - Best way is to not get viruses.
I didn't give them my bank pin or auth code. Not only that when I realized looking up at the site that it wasn't official I changed my password using the real runescape website after clearing cookies and doing a virus scan. I even logged back in after changing my pass to see if my gold was there and it was. They logged in after I had changed my pass! I was not having a very good day when I fell for it. I suffer from mental health issues.
I have several well known trusted anti malware programs like malware bytes as well as anti virus software. All I did was log into a site with my password. No auth codes or bank pins were given! My bank remains untouched. Its just my gold that missing you don't need a pin to trade that it seems. Even though my email wasn't effected I went through the whole process of changing the password to that as well. They logged into my account after the password was changed and my PC was secured and stole my gold using only an old recently changed password how is that possible.
I enabled two factor auth to help prevent this because it's meant to require the code if logging in from an unrecognized device. It failed here and cost me my gold which I worked hard for.

When you did follow that site , and you prolly pressed on a link there did forward you to a Runescape looking site , could there be one of those programs hiding in that link. Something i learnt for a long time ago , is that normal anti virus programs are good , but sadly do they not pick everything up Clan: Again I used multiple trusted anti virus and anti malware software.
I even have all of this software installed on USB sticks so i can plug them in and scan my PC as having them all installed at once can cause issues. And yes they are updated. If Auth was removed , then can that only be done because the email for your account are insecure. But since you said it is still active , are there only 2 ways to get past that security feature. You said you did fall for a phishing scam and when you notice that did you change your Password. You did not say anything about you having a Bank Pin.
If you don't have any messages regarding that , then can they only bypass a Active Auth in those 2 ways i already explained. Even with the best programs there are on the market about anti virus and such , are there still some nasty programs there can get past there detection. Even when you use those programs and you get a message saying no treats found , then COULD there still be one of those nasty programs hiding in your system.
